Selected as one of the featured works in Limelight Magazine's '25 in 25' in 2025, Glisten is a 4-minute virtuosic work for solo piano.

Commissioned by pianist Ian Holtham, the piece draws structural inspiration from the sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti. It mirrors Scarlatti's distinctive binary form and use of the 'crux' (a pause distinguishing the two parts) while exploring a contemporary sonic palette.

The title refers to the visual imagery of light glistening on the spray of ocean waves, a motif derived from Abbott's orchestral work 'Introduced Species'. With its sparkling textures and clear formal logic, Glisten is a popular choice for professional recitals (often as an opener or encore) and advanced student assessments.
